“Memeshift is the personal project of ShareSD co-founder Morgan Sully. Pulling influences from Orbital, Plaid, The Secret Frequency Crew and even Nirvana, Morgan thrives on developing a diverse electronic repertoire in his often difficult to place music. From illegal outdoor parties in Bay Area forests to cafes, galleries and nightclubs in San Diego and Mexico, Morgan has dj’ed and performed original electronic music in venues throughout California. While his produced work reflects an oft quieter side of his musical aspirations, his live shows explore the more pastoral, improvised, experimental, and glitched-out trajectories of his machine funk music.”
Well, according to my press release anyway. I’ve played alongside artists like Jega (Planet Mu, Matador), Tom Burbank (Planet Mu), El Poeta (imputor?), dj Jon Baker (Brokenbeat, Frik n’ Frak), Louis Haiman (Transmat, fwdthought), Disrupter (disruptermusic), Miguel Vega (AccentFeed), and Marcos Fernandes (Accretions, Trummerflora). I’ve also produced music for a variety of indoor/outdoor events, local documentaries, an independent film as well as recorded and produced tracks with San Francisco based shoegaze band, Skycamp.
On Performing
While I occasionally enjoy DJing with records, these days find me not far from my laptop – it’s an essential part of my performing (that and a drum machine or two). A lot of my process revolves around manipulating and improvising with pre-recorded loop, rhythms and various other sounds I channel into my mixer during shows. Other times, I have a more dj-oriented ’set’ of pre-selected tracks (both original and from others) which find their way in. One of my favorite instruments is a microphone for really being able to channel the ambience of a room and audience into my set. Feel free to browse, listen or subscribe to my latest DJ Mixes and Tracks.
Music Social Networks
I can be found on these fine music-oriented social networks – which I’d recommend to fellow musicians, like fwdthought, nonagon or Skycamp.
Past Shows
I’ve played throughout southern California. Sometimes legally. Other times not so much.
